ARIA implementation
ARIA (Accessible Rich Internet Applications) attributes are used throughout this site to supplement native HTML semantics where required. The following table documents our ARIA usage patterns.
| Attribute | Usage on this site |
|---|---|
aria-label | Navigation landmarks, icon-only buttons, and complex interactive regions |
aria-labelledby | Section headings programmatically associated with their containers |
aria-describedby | Form field help text and error messages |
aria-live | Dynamic content regions including form submission feedback and toast notifications |
aria-expanded | Mega-menu dropdowns and mobile hamburger navigation state |
aria-current | Active navigation items and current page indicators |
aria-hidden | Decorative icons, dividers, and visual-only elements |
role="list" | Unordered lists reset with CSS list-style:none to restore semantic meaning |
tabindex="-1" | Main content target for skip link focus management |
Testing methodology
Accessibility is tested at all levels across the development lifecycle.
- Accessibility requirements and acceptance criteria established before design or build begins.
- Known accessibility risks identified and documented at the start of each engagement.
- Contrast ratios, touch targets, and reduced motion preferences verified at component level.
- Accessibility reviewed in Figma before handover to build.
- Automated scanning integrated into our build process, catching violations before they reach QA.
- Accessible HTML, ARIA patterns, and keyboard behaviour implemented to specification.
- Keyboard-only navigation tested across all interactive elements and user flows.
- Screen reader testing across macOS, iOS, Windows and Android.
- Focus order and focus trap verification before every release.
Known exceptions
The following areas have known accessibility limitations. We are actively working to remediate these.
Some interactive map features may not fully meet keyboard navigation requirements. A text-based address search alternative is always provided.
Legacy PDF documents linked from case study pages may not be fully tagged. We are progressively remediating these.
Embedded third-party video content (YouTube) relies on the platform's own accessibility features. We provide transcripts where available.
